IVF: Finding Hope And Solutions.

IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization), commonly known as ‘test-tube baby’, is a procedure in which the egg is fertilized by sperm outside the body. The woman’s eggs are removed from the ovaries and fertilized in a fluid medium in the laboratory. Once fertilized, the fertilized egg is cultured for three to five days and then transferred to the woman’s uterus, in order to establish pregnancy. This IVF procedure is undertaken in IVF centers by IVF doctors qualified to administer this process.

IVF Treatments

IVF-ET is a technique in which an embryo is fertilized outside the body and then implanted into the uterus.

IUI is a fertility treatment that injects concentrated sperm directly into the uterus to increase fertilization and conception.

Blastocyst culture and transfer is a specific technique used during IVF to improve pregnancy rates and reduce the risk of multiple pregnancies

ICSI is a treatment for infertility in which a single sperm is injected directly into an egg to help it fertilise. It's used when IVF fails.

Frequently Asked Questions

IVF Treatment is advised for women who have problems with their fallopian tubes, due to which normal conception is not possible. The fallopian tubes may be damaged, blocked or in some cases, absent. It is also used in cases of male infertility, due to low sperm count or sperm quality. In such situations, it is used along with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).

There are four-steps involved in a successful IVF procedure

Ovarian Hyper stimulation: This involves administering fertility medication under the supervision of an experienced doctor to induce development of multiple follicles of ovaries. A follicle is a spheroid structure which secretes hormones and has the potential to release an egg during ovulation.

Retrieval of Eggs: The eggs are retrieved from the patient using a transvaginal technique called transvaginal oocyte retrieval, involving an ultrasound-guided needle piercing the vaginal wall to reach the ovaries. Through this needle follicles can be aspirated, and the follicular fluid is passed to an embryologist to identify ova. It is common to remove between ten and thirty eggs. The retrieval procedure usually takes between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on the number of mature follicles, and is usually done under conscious sedation or general anesthesia.

Fertilization outside the body and culture of embryos: In the laboratory, the identified eggs are stripped of surrounding cells and prepared for fertilization. An oocyte selection may be performed prior to fertilization to select eggs with optimal chances of successful pregnancy. In the meantime, semen is prepared for fertilization by removing inactive cells and seminal fluid in a process called sperm washing. If a sperm donor is providing semen, it will usually have been prepared for treatment before being frozen and quarantined, and it will be thawed ready for use.

Embryo Transfer: Embryo transfer refers to a step in the process of assisted reproduction in which embryos are placed into the uterus of a female with the intent to establish a pregnancy.

After embryo transfer you may resume your normal activities, as moving around enhances blood flow to the uterus. However, this is not necessary and you can do what feels right for you. The first pregnancy tests begin two weeks after ET because the hormone used to trigger ovulation is the same as the one used to test for pregnancy, and since it might still linger in the bloodstream it could result in false results. The In Vitro Fertilization(IVF) center would advise you in matters taking into consideration your unique makeup.

IVF treatments are not without their risks. Unexpected Multiple Pregnancies are one of them, and they can lead to complications such as gestational diabetes, fetal growth restriction, and preeclampsia as well as premature birth. IVF doctors and specialist at Aspire Fertility Center will advise on the risks to their clients before all procedures.

The success rate of IVF Treatment depends upon many factors, primarily the patient’s age. Younger women are able to produce more genetically normal and balanced eggs than older woman and enjoy greater successes. It also depends on the type of fertility problems, the quality of sperms and lifestyle habits. Thus, the In Vitro Fertilization(IVF) success rate depends on multiple factors and you should contact IVF doctors for more information.
